Become a Volunteer Coordinator
30 hours per month | 170 DKK/hour | Nørrebro, Copenhagen
Do you want to help strengthen an ambitious volunteer community for animals and help more people join the movement?
Dyrenes Alliance is looking for a volunteer coordinator to recruit, onboard, engage, and retain volunteers across the organization. You'll play a key role in ensuring more people find a meaningful path into animal rights work, feel truly welcomed, and are inspired to stay, grow, and take responsibility.
We're looking for someone who is both people-oriented, structured, and action-driven. You must create warm relationships, maintain oversight, and make things happen in practice. This role is close to the volunteers and daily coordination, with clear responsibility for ensuring volunteer work runs smoothly and feels meaningful.
About Dyrenes Alliance
Dyrenes Alliance works to make veganism mainstream and empower the next generation of animal rights activists. We build campaigns, communities, and opportunities that make it easier for more people to engage effectively for animals. We are ambitious, value-driven, and focused on building an organization where people grow, thrive, and lift each other.
About the Position
As a volunteer coordinator, you'll play a central role in strengthening the full volunteer journey—from first contact to active participation, development, and retention.
This role is primarily coordinating, relationship-driven, and hands-on. You'll be the team member closest to volunteers daily, ensuring onboarding, follow-up, communication, activities, and community function smoothly. You will have significant influence over how this work is approached in your area.
The overall strategic and structural responsibilities are developed closely with colleagues and your immediate supervisor, but we expect you to work independently, take initiative, follow up, and reach out when you need advice or support.
Much of the work happens behind a screen through planning, communication, follow-up, and coordination. At the same time, you are expected to participate in-person at selected events, onboarding activities, volunteer meetings, and other key activities where your presence makes a difference.
This is a part-time position, about 30 hours per month or roughly 7–8 hours per week on average. Hours are flexible, though there will be periods requiring work outside regular office hours, especially around events and volunteer meetings.
Your Responsibilities
Among other tasks, you will:
recruit and onboard new volunteers; follow up with volunteers to support their well-being, motivation, and development
coordinate activities, tasks, and communication across the volunteer environment
strengthen community, clarity, and responsibility within the volunteer work
support local coordinators and key volunteers
participate in selected events and activities
improve workflows for onboarding, follow-up, planning, and retention
collaborate closely with colleagues on campaigns, mobilizations, and organizational development
ChatGPT and automation are a natural part of the work
At Dyrenes Alliance, we actively use ChatGPT and automation to enhance communication, create overviews, develop materials, and make workflows more efficient. You don't need to be an expert but should be curious, quick to learn, and eager to competently use digital tools in your work. For us, it's about spending less time on repetitive tasks and administration and more time driving real change for animals.
We're looking for someone who:
is strong relationally and makes people feel welcome, seen, and respected
is structured and good at creating clarity
follows up and gets things done
can balance care, clarity, and setting expectations; writes and communicates clearly, warmly, and professionally
has an eye for both human well-being and organizational effectiveness; thrives with responsibility and independence
takes initiative and acts on what’s needed; knows when to ask for support
is curious about new work methods and eager to use ChatGPT as a practical tool
shares our values and wants to create real change for animals
is fluent in Danish and English
It's a plus if you also:
have experience with volunteer leadership, community building, or organizing
have worked in a value-driven organization, campaign organization, or movement
have experience with facilitation, coordination, or onboarding
How We Work
We're a small workplace with strong cohesion, high trust, and great opportunity to influence. The path from idea to action is short, and you will have room to shape how work is best done within your area.
We don’t micromanage. Instead, we expect you to take responsibility, work independently, follow up, and take initiative. At the same time, seeking help, sharing doubts, and asking for guidance should feel natural and encouraged. You'll receive training, support, and ongoing feedback, and we value a culture of psychological safety, respectful communication, and shared learning.
We believe sustainable work and respecting boundaries are strengths—not weaknesses. Therefore, we emphasize flexibility, clear expectations, and a work environment where people can grow, feel safe, and be taken seriously. You can read more about our work culture goals.
