ANIMAL AMBASSADOR

Greener canteens for a better future

When it comes to the climate crisis and its consequences, young people are some of the first to join the fight and some of the quickest to change their habits. They are also some of the most concerned about the well-being of animals!
The two causes are deeply connected, and that's why we, at Dyrenes Alliance, want to be part of the solution. The purpose of theAnimal Ambassador campaign is to spread information about how our diet affects the climate and all living beings on the planet. We do this by holding interactive workshops at high schools, continuation schools, folk high schools and other secondary schools, and to a lesser extent at schools.
Our workshops are developed in collaboration with experts in each topic, and all workshop leaders are continuously trained so that we always have the most up-to-date knowledge on each topic. We offer workshops on a range of subjects and topics, see our workshop catalogue here.

We offer these different activities:

  • Workshops - Interactive workshops where students actively participate. There's room for debate, group work and lots of exciting learning (duration: 1-2 hours, recommended: minimum 1.5 hours). BOOK A WORKSHOP HERE!

  • Taste tests - Tastings and information about plant-based diets and veganism. Only offered in conjunction with a workshop (duration: 10 min - 1 hour).

  • Infoboder - stalls with information on veganism, climate and animal rights, which students can turn to for information (duration: 30 min - 2 hours, recommended: 1 hour).
If not booked in conjunction with a workshop, info stalls are currently only offered in Greater Copenhagen.

What others say

"Very good and interesting presentation, which forced the students to actively deal with some of their own values, which we want to have in philosophy."

- Jon, philosophy teacher, Gefion

"I think the workshop was good and versatile, and that the students themselves were drawn into play a lot. I think they were sufficiently enlightened and provoked."

- Freja, teacher, Roskilde Festival Højskole

High schools/secondary schools

  • Animal ethics is not something most of us think much about in our everyday lives, but the way we treat other animals is very relevant when defining ethics and morality. In our philosophy workshop, we take an in-depth look at animal ethics and animal rights from both a utilitarian and deontological perspective. We incorporate theories from well-known philosophers, but emphasize debate between students and interactive assignments rather than lengthy presentations. Our goal is for students to be able to conduct independent critical argumentation based on professional and well-documented information on the subject.

  • Invisible belief systems have a huge impact on society and can contribute to unconscious bias. We have long struggled against oppressive belief systems such as patriarchy and classism, while one of the most oppressive and violent of them still thrives in our society. Carnism, due to its invisibility and immense power, is the dominant belief system when it comes to our plates. In our workshop, we focus on carnism as a belief system, challenge students' biases through interactive exercises and lively debates, and question the necessity of animal products in (especially) our diet.

  • Activism has typically been a necessary catalyst for major social change. We live in times when knowledge of natural disasters, wars and pandemics has unfortunately become commonplace for most young people. Many are concerned, and a number of them want to help make a difference. In our workshop on activism, we'll look at why we think it's an excellent tool for promoting our cause, and the different ways we use activism at Dyrenes Alliance. Through interactive activities and role-plays, among other things, we'll get students engaged in making a difference for themselves, animals and our planet.

Schools

  • Most children love animals and want to take care of them. At the same time, it is today's children and the generations after them who will feel the worst consequences of the climate crisis. That's why we think it's now more important than ever to talk to kids about how what they eat - and the way we treat nature - affects the planet, ourselves and all the other animals that share the earth with us. We've designed our workshops to suit children from 0-10th grade with different topics and activities depending on their age.
