We’re Going to Finland to Learn from Their Activists (1/4)

We endorse the Plant Based Treaty

Dyrenes Alliance is heading to Finland this November. We'll visit and collaborate with Viral vegans — one of the most influential, vegan organizations in the Nordics.

This trip is publicly funded, and we’re excited to build cross-Nordic youth partnerships. Together, we stand for one mission—to promote plant-based solutions and save the animals!

We’re traveling by train and ferry to Helsinki—as young activists on a mission!

This November, we from Dyrenes Alliance head to Helsinki. Not just to sightsee (okay... maybe a little), but to join with Finnish activists in Viral vegans and explore how young people can shape a greener Europe through plant-based solutions.

This is all part of the project “A Green Europe: Youth for plant-based Innovation in Finland and Denmark,”funded by the Danish Youth Council, Nordic Council of Ministers, and Nordic Council.

The journey itself is part of the experience.

How do we get to Finland?

We take the train to Stockholm, then ferry to Turku, before arriving in Helsinki.
The trip is long enough for a nap and serious planning talks—everything from activist strategy to who's bringing snacks.

Our first group session is on the ferry:

  • What does each of us want to learn?

  • How will we work together as a young team?

  • What roles will we take on?

It’s incredible to already feel the community forming at this point.

What’s on the agenda in Helsinki?

Our five days are packed (in a good way). Here’s a glimpse:

  • Workshop on plant-based innovation in Finland, where Viral vegans showcase cases, campaigns, and startups working on plant-based food systems.

  • Discussion on youth's role in Europe's green transition, where we enter the arena ourselves to debate how we can influence change.

  • Visit to a popular plant-based café/food initiative, to see how sustainability becomes practical and everyday-friendly.

It’s youth-led. We learn from each other and through hands-on experience—exactly how activism thrives at DA.

Why are we going?

We need to learn how to inspire youth leadership together. We need more young people engaged in the fight for a plant-based transition.

It benefits the animals and helps meet the EU’s climate goals, which are key to the funders behind this trip (Danish Youth Council, Nordic Council of Ministers, and Nordic Council).

The trip will result in:

  • Social media posts sharing our learnings and experiences.

  • Blog posts like this one.

  • Three workshops: in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense,.

  • and a digital toolkit for young people ready to start their own plant-based initiatives.

The Helsinki trip to meet activists from other countries isn’t a break from activism in Denmark—it’s fuel for it! Follow our next blog post! Click the link below.
