Julie Borup was elected to DA’s board at the June 10, 2024 general meeting and appointed chairperson of the association. Since 2015, she has participated in numerous activist events within Dyrenes Alliance and organized even more during her time as local coordinator in Odense. Julie is a trained journalist and currently works as a copywriter. She lives vegan daily. Below, she shares her story.

Young Passionates Driving Change

I have a special connection to Dyrenes Alliance. First, because I’ve met countless inspiring volunteers and activists through DA and had many powerful activist experiences with them. Second, I’m proud to be part of an organization that not only works pragmatically and evidence-based to advance animal rights but also takes its role as a youth organization seriously by creating safe spaces for young activists.

Dyrenes Alliance Works Effectively for Animals

It’s crucial to me that we remain a strong association willing to dedicate ourselves fully to animal rights and speak openly about our demand for freedom and justice for all animals. Equally important is working pragmatically, recognizing nuances, and meeting people where they are. I’m convinced this approach is how we break through to politicians, businesses, and individuals, achieving the best results for animals in the industry.

Why Eat plant-based?

I’ve lived vegan since around 2016. For me, the change came gradually as I sought more knowledge, met other veganers, and learned new recipes. Choosing to live vegan is a rational choice, even though it started with strong emotions. veganism aligns better with my moral compass than my former lifestyle did, and changing my eating habits was relatively easy — even exciting.

Eating plant-based is one of the most powerful actions an individual consumer can take to help the animals living and dying in food production. The impact grows even stronger when people unite in a group and work together toward a common goal.

That’s what we do in Dyrenes Alliance. We’ve never been stronger. We’ve made a huge difference for millions of animals. But the journey is far from over—because animals in food production, the entertainment industry, fashion, and many other corners of our supposedly civilized society remain the most overlooked and oppressed beings on Earth. Help us fight for them.
