Dyrenes Alliance at Plant Based Expo 2022

Dyrenes Alliance participated in DVF's plant-based fair to show how the aforementioned plant-based diet can save a lot of animals from the most terrible fates. In our efforts to tell and show the reality of animals, we showed virtual reality (iAnimal) in addition to both flyers and merchandise. We also used the opportunity to recruit new members and more people signed up for VeganerUdfordringen.

The companies set up had inviting stands and tasty samples. Although most products are only sold in limited shops, it seemed so obvious among the exhibitors that if only there were (re)buyers for the product, they would be ready at any moment to scale up their production. Most of the presentations on the main stage were about health, awards and how to create a greener shopping basket.

The fair was not a presentation on the conditions of animals, but Casper and the Monopoly (Casper Christiansen, Vicki Berlin, Thomas Erex and Søren Bregendal) were able to empathetically articulate that the primary reason for veganism is - morality and animal ethics. Ulrich Kern-Hansen from Organic Plant Protein highlighted for his presentation on Sunday a problem I find highly relevant: that the sale of legumes has remained largely unchanged over the last three years.

That vegan options are greatest outside Denmark therefore makes good sense. It is simply difficult to sell vegan products to Danish consumers.

Much of this is because our food habits in Denmark have almost sacred status, which is a huge problem for green development and animal liberation. Ulrich Kern-Hansen added that the average Dane tends to want their food culture left alone, and you have to agree with him. All in all, I'm happy with the difference we at Dyrenes Alliance delivered. There was a lot of activity at the stall on both days, and the volunteers managed to engage in constructive and instructive dialogues throughout. Thank you all!
