Our activism

At Dyrenes Alliance, we engage in activism on both individual and institutional levels—targeting individual consumers and running large campaigns against companies and public authorities.

Welfare campaigns from an abolitionist perspective

At Dyrenes Alliance we run campaigns to pressure companies and the state to improve conditions for animals. We use many forms of activism, such as demonstrations, lobbying, letters to editors, and leaflet distribution to raise awareness for our cause. In the animal rights movement, activism is often divided into two types: abolitionist activism (‘abolitionism’) and welfare activism (‘welfare-ism’).

Abolitionist activism is defined by opposition to all forms of human exploitation of animals—including treating non-human animals as objects.

Welfare activism, on the other hand, focuses on raising welfare standards for animals oppressed within the animal industry through welfare campaigns.

Some abolitionist activists oppose welfare campaigns, arguing that efforts to raise welfare standards legitimize the exploitation of non-human animals in the animal industry, while some welfare activists criticize abolitionists for being too radical and counterproductive.

At Dyrenes Alliance, we believe these approaches don’t have to exclude each other. That’s why we conduct welfare campaigns from an abolitionist perspective. Not because raising welfare standards or abolishing one form of animal farming over another signals justice for animals who are confined, exploited, and killed—but because welfare campaigns are among the most effective ways to reduce suffering in the animal industry. By targeting companies and government agencies with welfare campaigns, we work step by step to secure better and freer lives for animals. Always openly acknowledging that our ultimate goal is complete liberation of all animals from human oppression.

Abolitionist activism for individual change

At Dyrenes Alliance, we focus on consumer-centered activism to raise awareness about the oppression non-human animals endure in the animal industry. We also inspire people to try vegan alternatives through sample distributions or by encouraging them to try VeganerUdfordringen. This way, we motivate people to become vegan and live more empathetically and sustainably. Our activism for individual change follows an abolitionist approach, using education to encourage individuals to oppose human exploitation of animals.
