CARE 2022

This year, Dyrenes Alliance sent a group on a study tour to Warsaw to attend Europe's leading animal rights conference, CARE. Katrine from Dyrenes Alliance Slagelse wrote the following blog post about her experiences at CARE.

If you are interested in learning more about how you can make the biggest difference for animals and participate in exciting educational opportunities both in Denmark and abroad, please become a volunteer at Dyrenes Alliance!

Go abroad with DA!

Every year, DA members take trips abroad to strengthen activism, community and networking with international organizations.

Imagine a world where everyone eats vegan, where everyone works to reduce the suffering of as many animals as possible. Imagine being in an auditorium where you can learn from some of the people who have been the longest in the animal rights movement... You are now at CARE.

This year there was a strong focus on optimisation and animal welfare campaigns. L214 from France gave an impressive and inspiring presentation of their fight against turkey farming, which included a mobile showroom of a chicken house in a truck and burger boxes with graphic surprises inside. There was also a good opportunity to optimise your organisation and leadership skills, and with a really good presentation on public speaking and communication, there was also something for the street activist.

The program at CARE was busy with all the great presentations, so it was important to remind yourself to take breaks in between so that you also had energy for the wonderful dinners that we from Dyrenes Alliance held at various restaurants. It was nice to meet DAs from all over Denmark and experience how many we are, make new friends and be inspired by the other local associations. The dinners offered a wide variety of culinary corners of the world. Victoria and Jason had picked great places for us: From a small Mexican place to platters of vegan sushi, to The Botanist where you could feel like a jet set and eat delicious European dishes.

Conversations are often extra good when you move your feet after a delicious dinner, and Warsaw is an exciting mix of old and new, so the walks were also an experience in themselves. Along the large river that cuts through Warsaw, there is a cool promenade with bars in the best street style, made of containers and beach chairs. Here we partied in the evenings with other cool enthusiasts from all over the world. We turned the world situation around and shared activist anecdotes. There are so many great people to get inspiration from! Some are new to the animal rights fight and bring all the energy and infectious motivation and others bring years of good and bad experiences. Either way, you're surrounded by great people with exciting input and a burning heart for animals.
